Miller Homes Scotland East is celebrating the creativity of local schoolchildren following a successful spring colouring competition held across communities near its Antonine Brae development in Bo’ness and Avonside Wisp development in Whitecross.

The competition, which took place over the Easter break, invited young participants to showcase their artistic talents, with an enthusiastic response from both Grange Primary School and Whitecross Primary School.

At Grange Primary School, located near the Antonine Brae development in Bo’ness, 30 children aged four and five from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) class took part, producing a vibrant array of entries. The winning design was created by Corrie, age four, whose colourful artwork stood out for its creativity and imagination.

Meanwhile, Whitecross Primary School, located near The Wisp development, saw an impressive 58 pupils aged three to twelve participate in the competition. After careful consideration, Emma, age 11, was selected as the winner, impressing judges with her attention to detail and originality.

Both winners received an arts and crafts bundle to continue developing their creativity, while all participants were rewarded with chocolate treats in recognition of their efforts.

Pamela McBride, Senior Early Years Officer at Grange Primary School, said “So many of our children love to be creative in different ways so this competition was ideal for our nursery.

The children were given the choice of materials to decorate their hard hat design and most of them chose coloured pens and pencils.  The winner of the competition was very pleased with her design which incorporated flowers and love hearts.  She was delighted with her prize which was a basket of art and craft supplies which was perfect allowing her to further develop her creative abilities.

The visit from the team at Miller Homes initiated lots of discussion from the children which resulted in very imaginative constructions being built in our Block Area. We may have some future builders in our midst”

Donna Kilpatrick , Headteacher at Whitecross Primary School, said “We are absolutely delighted that Emma has been recognised for her creativity and imagination through winning the Spring hat design competition.”

“At Whitecross Primary, we are passionate about providing opportunities for children to express themselves creatively and develop confidence through a wide range of experiences.  The competition entry demonstrated fantastic originality, attention to detail and a wonderful celebration of spring.  We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm Emma showed in her design.  Achievements such as this reflect the creativity, talent and positive attitudes of our children, and we are thrilled to celebrate this success with our wider school community.”

Neil Gaffney, Regional Sales Director for Scotland East at Miller Homes Scotland East said: “It’s been wonderful to see such a high level of engagement from local schools across both communities and to celebrate the creativity of young people near our developments. Competitions like this are a great way to connect with families locally, and we’d like to thank all the pupils and schools who took part.”

Miller Homes Scotland East continues to support local communities through initiatives that bring people together and celebrate creativity, particularly among younger residents.
