MHA Finance Directors Update to cover economic outlook, tax and governance — one of three September briefings

Posted: 3rd September 2026

Accountancy and business advisory firm MHA is to hold three events this month for business leaders.

MHA will hold its Finance Directors Update Course on Thursday, 17 September (2026), bringing together the firm’s tax, audit and advisory specialists to give finance directors, CFOs and business owners a single, practical update on the accounting, tax and governance changes affecting their organisations.

The course, which runs from 8.30am to noon (3 hours CPD), will include an economic update from Professor Joe Nellis, MHA’s Economic Adviser.

In addition, there will be sessions on audit and accounting standards, employment tax, corporate and international tax, VAT, share schemes and employee ownership, M&A tax considerations, and ESG, sustainability assurance and director responsibilities.

Speakers are drawn from across MHA’s tax and advisory teams, and include Dr Martyn Gordon (National Senior Tax Training Manager), Neil Parsons (Technical Director, Audit & Accounting Standards), Richard Maitland (Partner, Employment Tax), Jonathan Dowding (Tax Partner) and Alex Lubbock (Tax Manager, Corporate & International Tax), Sue Rathmell (VAT Partner), Hasan Hashmi (Tax Director) and Jonathan Harvey (Tax Manager, Share Schemes & Employee Ownership), Nathan Sutcliffe (Tax Partner, M&A), and Mark Lumsdon Taylor (Executive Lead – Development & Sustainability, ESG).

The course is aimed at finance directors and CFOs, particularly those working under IFRS or, for larger entities, reporting under UK GAAP (FRS101 or FRS102), and closes with a full-panel Q&A.

Sue Rathmell said: “Finance directors are having to keep pace with change on several fronts at once, from accounting standards through to tax and governance, and that’s before you factor in the wider economic picture. Our FD Update Course gives finance leaders a clear, practical steer on what’s changing and what it means for their organisation, rather than a string of separate briefings. Given how oversubscribed these courses tend to be, I’d encourage anyone with an interest to register as soon as possible.”

The course is free to attend for finance directors, CFOs and business owners, though places are limited.

MHA is running two further webinars either side of the Finance Directors Update Course.

Navigating EPR Compliance and Import Responsibilities

MHA will host a Lunch & Learn webinar on Tuesday, September 8, from noon to 1pm, on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and import compliance. The session is run jointly with McGrady Clarke, a specialist in EPR and circularity.

It will cover the UK’s Extended Producer Responsibility regime, the UK Plastic Packaging Tax, and the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which came into force from August 2026.

The session will also look at where EPR obligations overlap with customs and import processes. The webinar is aimed at importers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors and compliance professionals. Speakers include Andrew Thurston (Customs Duty & Indirect Tax Consultant, MHA)
