Members of Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society

Posted: 22nd October 2018

Members of Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society – the fourth oldest golf club in the world – have agreed to change their constitution to permit ladies to become members.

The Edinburgh club follows in the footsteps of the R&A and others including The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Royal Troon, Royal Aberdeen and Panmure in deciding to break with tradition and admits female members.

Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society was founded in 1761.

Captain Mike Smith announced that 83.7% of members casting their vote on Thursday were in favour of the change.

Mr Smith said: “This is an historic occasion for the Society with overwhelming support to allow the Society to welcome ladies as members.

“This change, together with a £1.2m investment in our course redevelopment will ensure we are well positioned for the future.
“The course improvements are on track to come into play in April, 2019.”

Mr Smith revealed 67% of all voting members participated.
