Members' Code of Conduct

Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce – Members’ Code of Conduct

Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce aims to provide a safe and professional environment for members, non-members, Chamber staff and Board and Council. This Code of Conduct reflects that aim, and outlines the key aspects that affect a businesses’ relationship with the Chamber. It does not cover all membership obligations and the Chamber can take action as required, in line with our Constitution and applicable laws.

COMPLIANCE WITH THIS CODE

Members are expected to observe and abide by this Code to ensure a safe, enjoyable and welcoming environment for fellow members, stakeholders and the Chamber team. Participation in Chamber activities is subject to this Code.

We do not tolerate discriminatory, disrespectful or threatening behaviour of any type between or towards any Member, non-member, individual or organisation or members of staff engaged by or associated with the Chamber.

If any person feels that a member has acted in such a manner, complaints can be raised according to our complaints procedure. The Chamber reserves the right to take appropriate action against any Member in case of breach or non-compliance, including exclusion from events, removal from media, suspension, or termination of membership without refund.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The conduct expected from members is as follows:

  • Maintain high standards of conduct when engaging in Chamber events, acting professionally, respectfully, and with integrity.
  • Not to publicly speak or comment on behalf of the Chamber without authorisation.
  • Follow reasonable requests or direction given by Chamber staff, for example at events,
  • Respect confidentiality requirements and privacy policies of the Chamber and members’.
  • Ensure a safe environment for Chamber staff, members and participants, free from harassment, abuse, or discrimination.
  • Communicate in a way that is reasonable and professional.
  • Refrain from issuing malicious, inflammatory, or abusive statements about the Chamber or its members.
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Members have access to our Membership Directory via a secure portal. This is a valuable tool for connecting with other businesses. We ask that members use this responsibly, and do not send bulk/mass email marketing emails or any communications that could be perceived as intrusive. Instead, please focus on building meaningful and professional connections.

PRIVACY, CONDUCT, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, AND USE OF TRADEMARKS

During their membership, members may gain access to reports, research, and confidential information, which should be handled appropriately. Members agree to:

  • Comply with data protection laws and obtain consent before sharing personal information.
  • Seek written consent before sharing commissioned research or intellectual property.
  • Avoid inappropriate or harmful use of information.
  • Coordinate with the marketing team for relevant information sharing on Chamber matters.
  • Members must comply with trade mark rights and other intellectual property rules as long as they are Chamber members.

UPDATES TO THIS CODE

The Chamber reserves the right to amend, update, or replace this Code. Any new version will be communicated to Members through the Members’ section of the website.
