Lothian welcomes new class of apprentice engineers
Lothian has welcomed a new cohort of apprentice engineers who will spend three to four years honing their skills through on-the-job learning at the company.
The award-winning operator’s apprenticeship programme is highly regarded across the industry and beyond as an exceptional pathway for individuals of all ages to develop both practical and personal skills while establishing a career in engineering.
Five new young apprentices and three mature apprentices have joined the engineering teams across Lothian. Trainees will gain hands-on experience alongside classroom-based learning provided by GTG at their purpose-built centre in Newbridge.
Dylan Dastey, Engineering Director for Lothian, said: “We’re delighted to welcome eight new apprentice engineers to Lothian. Apprenticeships are a vital part of our long-term commitment to developing skills and creating home-grown opportunities within the engineering sector.
“By combining classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience in our garages, we’re ensuring our apprentices are equipped with the knowledge and expertise needed to maintain and future-proof our fleet to the highest possible standards.
“They represent the next generation of engineering talent and we’re proud to support them on their journey.”
Upon successful completion of the programme, Lothian’s apprentices will be awarded an SCQF Level 7 qualification in Heavy Goods and Public Service Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
Widely regarded as one of the best in the bus industry, Lothian’s apprenticeship programme has successfully trained over 130 engineers to date, many of whom have gone on to progress their careers within the business.
