Lothian partnership with Shelter Scotland raises £12.8k through lost property donations
A partnership between Lothian and Shelter Scotland has raised £12,800 over the past 12 months through the sale of unclaimed lost property.
Since 2024, the award-winning bus operator has donated unclaimed items left behind on its vehicles to Shelter Scotland. They are then resold through the charity’s network of shops across the city. Donated items include clothing such as jackets and jumpers, as well as children’s toys, DVDs, and games.
Over the past year, the initiative has achieved:
- £12,800 raised from the sale of donated items
- 3,149 items sold
- 0.95 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill
The money raised is enough to help answer calls to over 230 families in crisis, as well as fund 260 webchats to support people with expert advice on housing issues.

“By giving unclaimed lost property a second life, we are reducing waste and creating real social value where it is needed the most.
“Raising £12,800 over the past 12 months is a significant milestone and reflects our strong commitment to supporting Shelter Scotland’s work to end homelessness.”
