Le Tour Du Hack cyber event to roll into town

Posted: 31st January 2019

Students and young professionals come together to shine spotlight on cyber security

Students and young professionals will get the chance to test their cyber skills when a leading industry event returns to Edinburgh next month.

Organised by ENUSEC, Edinburgh Napier University’s Security Society, Le Tour Du Hack will take place at George Watson’s College on the weekend of 23-24 March 2019.

Returning for its third year, and with more than 300 visitors expected to attend, organisers are promising that it will be the biggest and best edition yet and will feature a two-track conference for the first time.

The opening day will see a wealth of guest speakers and exhibitors take to the floor, with the event opening with a special keynote from industry favourite Stu Peck. A dedicated track for student speakers – giving them the chance to gain essential public speaking experience – will also feature.

A dedicated exhibition space will also allow companies the chance to connect with the next generation of the country’s cyber talent.

The second day of activities will see competitors come together for an entirely student-led ethical hacking Capture the Flag event.

Competitors will compete in teams of four and will be treated to an innovative and cryptic set of ciphers, executables and websites to hack. The Capture the Flag team is led by ENUSEC Vice President and Cyber Security Challenge Masterclass Champion Charlie Hosier.

Jamie O’Hare, President of ENUSEC, said: “Since its inception, Le Tour Du Hack has been well-attended by talented cybersecurity students located in Scotland. However, the event also attracts members from the wider cybersecurity student communities such as Imperial College London and Anglia Ruskin.

“Although its link with students is strong, the event is open to anyone who is interested in learning, socialising and competing in a friendly cybersecurity environment. We hope to see you there!”

ENUSEC is Edinburgh Napier University’s Security Society. The society was started in 2015 with the goal to provide students and surrounding cybersecurity practitioners with an outlet for them to further their learning while fostering a friendly community.

It currently boasts more than 85 active members, with the majority studying on either the NCSC-accredited BEng Cyber Security and Forensics or the GCHQ-accredited MSc Advanced Security and Digital Forensics courses.
