Kickstart Wraparound Support

Kickstart Wraparound Support

The UK Government has introduced a new Kickstart Scheme in Great Britain, a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of high-quality 6-month work placements aimed at those aged 16-24 who are on Universal Credit and are deemed to be at risk of long term unemployment. Edinburgh Chamber is working alongside the British Chambers of Commerce and is a recognised Gateway Organisation to help businesses access the scheme.

About the Scheme:

The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new job placements for individuals aged 16 to 24 on universal credit who are at risk of long term unemployment. The scheme is designed to create a stepping stone into further employment, enabling young people to gain the skills and experience needed to gain future employment. Employers of all sizes can apply for funding which covers:

  • 100% of the National Minimum Wage(or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months including associated national insurance and minimum automatic enrolment contributions. Employers can choose to extend the hours of work if they so wish, but any hours worked over the funded 25 should be supplemented from the employer’s own funds.
  • £1,500 support grant which can be utilised for equipment, uniform and employability support such as training courses to support the candidate’s professional development.

Requirements

The job placements created with Kickstart funding must be new jobs. They must not: replace existing or planned vacancies or cause existing employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment.

The roles you are applying for must be:

  • a minimum of 25 hours per week, for 6 months
  • paid at least the National Minimum Wage for their age group
  • should not require people to undertake extensive training before they begin the job placement

Each application should include how you will help the participants to develop their skills and experience, including:

  • support to look for long-term work, including career advice and setting goals
  • support with CV and interview preparations
  • supporting the participant with basic skills, such as attendance, timekeeping and teamwork
