Invitation to launch event: Edinburgh Living Wage City

Posted: 10th November 2021

We are delighted to inform you that progress has been made with Edinburgh gaining accreditation to be recognised as a Living Wage City under the Living Wage Places scheme run by Living Wage Scotland. This will be formally announced during Living Wage Week, 15 – 21 November.

In partnership with Living Wage Scotland, University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow, we invite you to join us at an online celebration to mark Edinburgh’s Living Wage City status on Tuesday 16 November, 10.00am – 12 noon.

This event will be hosted by Cllr Kate Campbell (Co-Chair Edinburgh Living Wage City Action Group) and Dr Ishbel McWha-Hermann (University of Edinburgh Business School) and speakers will include academics, Living Wage accredited employers and employees.

Full details about the event and how to register can be found via this link. Please feel free to share this throughout your networks.

By way of background, this accreditation builds on existing commitments made by the Council and other partners. Through the Edinburgh Living Wage City Action Group, that was established in the draft action plan that was presented to the Housing, Homelessness and Fair Work Committee in September 2021, a number of key milestones and objectives for the city have been set over the next five years that will:

  • Support an additional 500 Edinburgh businesses to become Living Wage accredited employers
  • Provide Living Wage provision for up to 40,000 employees, with a specific target to ensure that at least 10,000 employees benefit from an immediate pay uplift as a result of accreditation
  • Ensure that growth in Real Living Wage take up is focused on those sectors where low pay and insecure work in the city is most prevalent.

We look forward to you joining us.

Best wishes,

Edinburgh Living Wage City Action Group
