Introducing our new 7 Hills Challenge in aide of St Columba’s Hospice Care #SummitforStColumbas

Posted: 10th July 2020

We are all doing our bit to ensure that important social distancing guidelines are followed so sadly, this year’s Dragon Boat Challenge, which was due to take place on 29th August, is now postponed until Spring 2021. As well as being huge fun, the Dragon Boat Challenge is an important fundraising event for us, allowing us to continue providing the very best hospice care to vulnerable people in our communities.

The good news is… we have a fantastic new challenge for you this Summer! We hope you will join us for a new adventure and help us fundraise!

Our beautiful city is located within the ring of 7 volcanic hills, all set within Edinburgh’s city centre and suburban areas. Our challenge to your team is to climb all 7! Think panoramic views and spectacular scenery from the Hills of Fife to North Berwick Law as well as many amazing city vistas.

The 7 Hills of Edinburgh are:
1.    Castle Rock
2.    Calton Hill
3.    Arthur’s Seat
4.    Blackford Hill
5.    Braids Hill
6.    Craiglockhart Hill
7.    Corstorphine Hill

The Challenge can be completed in two ways:
Your team have from Friday 21st August until Friday 28th August to head to the hills and cover 14.3 miles by foot with 2200 ft. of ascent/descent.
1. Complete 14.3 miles on foot across all 7 hills in a day
2. Complete 14.3 miles on foot over seven days – perhaps you could bag a hill a day!

Please email me asouthey@stcolumbashospice.org.uk to register for free for the 7 Hills Challenge. I’ll be able to guide you through a few simple steps to get you started. The first will be to set up your JustGiving page – https://www.justgiving.com/start-fundraising. You can now set up the fitness app, Strava, to run alongside your JustGiving page, and are able to update your route with pictures, times etc.

Setting your fundraising target:
Our events are a fantastic way to fundraise for the hospice and given current circumstances could not be more crucial, there is no minimum fundraising sponsorship but a suggested target of £100 per person is a great place to start.

Prizes will be awarded for:
-Fastest time over one day
-Most money raised overall
-Best photo (Have fun with this: team shot, summit shot, views etc.)

All entrants will receive Hospice T-shirts and finishers will receive Certificates of Completion. You can share how you are getting on with your colleagues, friends and family via social media. So please wear your hospice t-shirts, take photos and share. Remember to use #SummitforStColumbas for all of your posts. I can’t wait to see how you get on!

Your fundraising and support of St Columba’s Hospice Care is incredibly valuable to us, helping our dedicated staff provide vital services to those who need it most.
