Hot Tin Roof founder Sarah Lee appointed Chair of CIPR Scotland

Posted: 16th December 2025

Managing Director to lead Scotland’s communications profession through period of industry transformation

Hot Tin Roof today announced that founder and Managing Director Sarah Lee has been appointed Chair of CIPR Scotland, one of 14 volunteer-led groups within the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ UK-wide network.  Sarah takes over from Stewart Argo following the group’s Annual General Meeting in October.

Sarah has served as Vice Chair for the past two years, during which CIPR Scotland membership grew by 9%, professional accreditation increased by 44%, and event attendance more than doubled. She brings over 30 years of communications experience to the role, including founding Hot Tin Roof 23 years ago and building its reputation as Scotland’s specialist science and technology communications partner.

Her appointment comes as communications professionals across Scotland navigate AI disruption, misinformation challenges, economic pressures, and the approaching May 2026 Scottish Parliament elections.

Sarah said: “After three decades in this industry, I’ve learned that what endures through every technological shift and economic pressure is community. Real community where we genuinely support each other, share knowledge, and help each other succeed.

“Stewart has handed over an organisation in remarkably strong shape, and I’m committed to building on those foundations while ensuring every member, wherever they are in Scotland, feels this is their community.”

Under Sarah’s leadership, CIPR Scotland will prioritise in-person regional events, launch the new Scotland PR Awards in autumn 2026, and support members navigating the changed political landscape. Making professional development accessible and affordable during challenging economic times will be a particular focus, with new breakfast briefings and expanded university partnerships supporting early-career professionals.

Stewart Argo, outgoing Chair, said: “Sarah has been instrumental in CIPR Scotland’s growth over the past two years. Her strategic vision, collaborative approach, and deep understanding of the challenges facing modern communicators make her the ideal person to lead us forward.”

For Hot Tin Roof, Sarah’s appointment reflects the agency’s commitment to elevating professional standards across the sector. The Edinburgh-based studio operates as a senior-level partnership combining Sarah’s quarter-century of strategic communications expertise with public affairs and professional design capabilities, consistently advocating for the profession to move beyond transactional relationships toward genuine community and shared learning.

Hot Tin Roof’s work with organisations including the National Robotarium, SSE, Converge and innovators across robotics, quantum computing, clean energy, and healthcare sectors has earned PRCA DARE Awards recognition for translating complex technical innovation into compelling public narratives.

As the agency approaches its 25th anniversary in 2027, Sarah’s CIPR Scotland leadership role underscores Hot Tin Roof’s commitment to not just adapting to industry transformation, but actively shaping how communications professionals should respond to it.
