Scottish independent broadband provider GoFibre has begun constructing its full fibre network across Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick.

Construction is expected to be complete by summer this year; by which time approximately 12,000 premises throughout the three commuter towns will be able to access GoFibre’s ultrafast broadband services. As construction progresses, residents will be kept up-to-date and disruption kept to a minimum as much as possible.

Full fibre networks are considered to be the best type of connectivity for today and the future, allowing communities to upload and download data with none of the disruption that ageing copper networks bring. However, it is only currently available to around 30% of UK premises.

Once in place, speeds of up to 10Gbps will be available, transforming the ability to work effectively from home, operate multiple devices simultaneously with no lag and download complete box sets in seconds.

GoFibre’s parent company, Borderlink Broadband recently secured an investment of £164 million from specialist asset management company, Gresham House to accelerate its rollout of full fibre broadband throughout Scotland and the North of England. GoFibre aims to connect half a million homes over the next three years.
