Fourteen trainees start their legal career with Thorntons

Posted: 19th September 2019

Leading Scottish law firm Thorntons has swelled its ranks with fourteen new trainee solicitors – its largest ever single intake.

The new recruits have joined the firm to undertake a two year traineeship across its network of offices and will develop their skills and knowledge working across a variety of legal disciplines.

Craig Nicol, Managing Partner at Thorntons, said: “We know that our trainees are the key to the future success of our business and with the firm’s strategic growth in recent years, it’s no surprise we’ve appointed our biggest intake of first year trainees for 2019/20.”

They include Ryan McCuaig and Kieran Wood from Glasgow, Charlotte Parker Smith and Adeeb Mostafa from Dundee, Thea Pock from Cork in Ireland, Lauren Smith from Forfar, Ross Cargill from Arbroath, Kerri McIver from Livingston, Sarah High from Monifieth, Simon Holbrey from Wolverhampton, Eilidh Connacher from Aberdeen, Cameron Mathieson from Brechin, Lindsay Edwards from Kingskettle in Fife and Ruth Swanson from Ayr.

Mr Nicol continued:  “Structured round four six-month department rotations, our trainees will gain hands-on experience, complete practical work and have direct client contact from early on.   The group will also benefit from our diverse learning and development programmes, mentoring scheme and internal networking opportunities which are all designed to further advance our peoples’ skills and knowledge.  We wish our new colleagues the very best of luck with this exciting stage of their legal career.”

New Trainee Adeeb Mostafa, added: “I joined the estate agency team at Thorntons in the summer of 2017 and have worked there until starting my traineeship here in 2019. Joining the firm through this route really provided me with an opportunity to get to know many people within the firm and get a sense of the culture at Thorntons – it is a great place to work”.

“I studied law at the University of Dundee and I am very excited to commence my traineeship. I am particularly looking forward to having my own clients and being able to assist them.”

Due to growth and the changing business needs of Thorntons, the firm has added to its requirement for Trainee Solicitors for 2021 and invites applications in time for the deadline of 5pm on Friday 4 October. Information about 2022 traineeships will be published in May 2020.
