EYE-CATCHING events created and staged by Edinburgh Napier students as part of their course have raised more than £3700 for a series of charities.

Cake tasting, crime, music and bingo all featured as themes in the money-spinners dreamed up by Event Management students at the Business School.

The events raised a total of £3726 for good causes which included Maggie’s Centres, Breast Cancer Now, Diabetes UK and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy.

Classmates also got behind the national campaign to end the injustice of period poverty by helping put on a Bloody Big Brunch event at all three of the university’s Edinburgh campuses.

Dr Martin Robertson, Associate Professor in International Festival and Event Management, said the students had worked extremely hard, and the impact of their efforts had gone beyond fundraising.

He added: “This year’s cohort of students not only created and managed very professional events as a core element of their assessment, they also made a decent contribution to charity and excelled in heightening awareness of important issues.”

The events the students staged were All About Cake (£1263.75 for Maggie’s cancer care centres), Music Through Time (£505.24 for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy), Behind The Mask (£504 for Support in Mind Scotland), A Fabulous Night In (£484 for Breast Cancer Now), Crime Night (£400 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health), Luck of the Bingo (£400 for Diabetes UK) and Murder of Crows (£170 for Solving Kids’ Cancer)
