Edinburgh’s CEOs Are Back In The Dog House

Posted: 17th September 2021

The city’s top business minds will trade the boardroom for a kennel when Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home kicks off its fourth annual ‘In the Dog House’ event on Friday 8 October.

The Home is once again inviting CEOs, business leaders and influencers to spend a day in their kennels and support their vital work to rescue, reunite and rehome stray, lost and abandoned dogs and cats throughout the East of Scotland.

Armed with only a laptop and a mobile phone, the business gurus will have a day to raise as much funds as they can, with the coveted ‘Top Dog’ trophy awarded to the highest earner on the day and ‘Best in Show’ trophy for the most raised overall.

This year the event has a virtual twist, allowing participants to take part from the comfort of their own homes. Others wishing to get the full Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home experience can take part directly from their kennels, with social distancing measures in place. All participants will be encouraged to use their networks and make new connections to reach fundraising milestones, which will be rewarded with ‘treats’, such as a chair to sit on, a walk in the paddock and snacks.

Sarah Crossley, Group Director of Business Development for Blue Parrot and a member of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s Event Committee, encouraged Edinburgh’s business community to get involved. She said:

“When I first caught wind of In The Dog House back in 2018 I just loved the concept of trading places with “man’s best friend” and signed up instantly. I had the best day! Seeing the amazing work that the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home do and meeting the staff that dedicate themselves to the care of our furry friends and keeping the home running was humbling to say the least. It was nice to have a break from the office and have some peace and quiet (although we had to work hard to get treats and toilet breaks), I’ve signed up every year since. I’ve met some incredible people over the past 4 years and am so privileged to be asked to take part again this year….and I’ll be bringing my Alfie (the bulldog) for the first time, just hope he behaves.”

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s Development Manager, Karlyn Robertson said:

“We are thrilled to launch In The Dog House 2021, particularly after a long period of disruption to various income streams, including events. In The Dog House is an opportunity for business leaders and influencers to promote their brand, whilst importantly, raising awareness of our cause and raising vital funds for the dogs, cats and communities that we support.

The hybrid take on this year’s event means that there is no geographical limitations on who can compete for the crown of Top Dog or Best In Show in this unique challenge, which we hope will yield the most success yet. We can’t wait to open our doors – in-person and virtually – to this year’s participants.”

Since it was first launched in 2017, In The Dog House has raised nearly £50,000 to support Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. Funds have been used to provide food, shelter, training and essential veterinary care for animals preparing to find new homes.
