Edinburgh Leisure customers show their support

Posted: 7th April 2020

When Edinburgh Leisure closed its doors on 19 March due to COVID-19, they were overwhelmed by the support they received from customers and social media followers expressing their commitment and support.  In just over a week over 1,000 customers pledged to continue paying their monthly direct debits and Edinburgh Leisure would like to say a huge thank-you to them for their generosity during such uncertain times.

Edinburgh Leisure is a charity on a mission to help people lead more active, healthy lives. Venues would normally be full of people of all ages doing their physical activity ‘thing’ – from gym lovers, swimmers, fitness class fanatics, golfers, climbers and so many children getting active and having FUN.   Therefore, shutting venues and freezing customers’ memberships has huge consequences for Edinburgh Leisure and also impacts the health and wellbeing of people in Edinburgh.

Every penny Edinburgh Leisure receives from members and customers is reinvested back into venues and helps to fund the vital services they provide. Fundraising also ensures that over 10,000 people affected by health conditions, poverty, inequalities and disabilities receive the support they need from the Active Communities Team to be active and protect their health and wellbeing.

June Peebles, Chief Executive says ‘Everyone at Edinburgh Leisure has been touched by the messages of support we’ve received and I’m so grateful to our generous customers for helping us get through this crisis in the coming months. Together we will get through this’.

Whilst Edinburgh Leisure venues may be temporarily closed, the charity’s commitment to keeping people active and healthy is stronger than ever.   To bring a little bit of the Edinburgh Leisure experience into people’s homes during lockdown, they should visit ‘Find Your Feel Good at Home’ to access a range of fitness tips and free LES MILLS™ at home workouts.
