Edinburgh Charity Achieves “Sector Leading” Rating from Scotland’s Social Care Watchdog

Posted: 19th January 2026

Teens+, a service delivered by the charity Capella, has been recognised as “sector leading”, receiving a 6 – Excellent for its support of student wellbeing by Scotland’s Care Inspectorate.
The findings highlight a transformative impact on families, with one parent telling inspectors: “They’ve changed my life and my son’s life and I’m ever so grateful.”

For young adults with learning disabilities, autism, and behaviours that challenge, the report found that Teens+ provides a blueprint for empowerment. By embedding collaboration and tailored support at the heart of its service, every care decision is shaped by the individual’s needs, aspirations, and voice.

The report notes students are: “empowered to be fully involved in making decisions about their physical and emotional wellbeing through high-quality personal plans.”

“This recognition reinforces that our values-led approach delivers life-changing outcomes,” said Simon Pearce-Madge, Head of Service for Teens+. “While the social care sector faces immense recruitment and economic pressures, we have intentionally resisted the push for generic, cost-efficient models. Instead, we have doubled down on empowering both our students and our staff.”

The service also achieved a 5 – Very Good rating for its staff team, reflecting Teens+ successful values-led approach to hiring and training. Inspectors noted that employees “loved” coming to work, and as a result of wellness plans and cost-of-living initiatives, Teens+ has built a stable, “highly attuned” workforce that stays with the charity long-term.

This stability allows for perfect matching between staff and students. Inspectors noted that Teens+ staff “knew the people they supported so well that they immediately recognised changes in their health or wellbeing. The staff knew exactly what action was needed to safeguard, protect and prioritise the health and wellbeing of all the people they worked with.”

Capella is nominated for three awards at the 2026 Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Awards, including Large Business of the Year and Innovation in Business awards.
