Edinburgh Airport welcomes thousands for Hogmanay celebrations Almost 124,000 travellers to pass through Scotland’s busiest airport over next few days.

Posted: 5th January 2026

More than 60,000 people will fly into Edinburgh over the next few days as the city prepares to welcome in the New Year.

Travellers from all over the world will land at Scotland’s busiest airport between 29 December and Hogmanay, with many heading into the city for its world-famous celebrations.

And 64,000 people from Scotland will head away to celebrate the New Year, with some toasting the Bells in sunnier destinations such as Spain and Dubai, while others seek out new experiences in China and the USA.

Overall, the airport is expecting almost 124,000 people to pass through the terminal.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said:

“Edinburgh is world-renowned for its Hogmanay celebrations, and some would say we are the capital of New Year. We wholeheartedly agree with that and are excited to welcome 60-thousand people into the city ahead of the big night.

“We also know there are others who want to head off for their own foreign celebrations – with some seeking a sunnier start to 2026 as they fly to Tenerife, Dubai and Doha, while others look to enjoy festive breaks and new experiences in Beijing, New York and even further afield.

“However you choose to welcome in the New Year, we wish you and yours a happy, healthy and successful 2026.”
