Double award win for Brodies for outstanding contribution and innovation at the Law Awards of Scotland

Posted: 10th December 2018

Brodies LLP, Scotland’s largest law firm, enjoyed a double success at last night’s Law Awards of Scotland, scooping two awards for outstanding contribution and innovation.

Bill Drummond, Managing Partner of Brodies for 20 years, received the Outstanding Contribution award in recognition of his services and commitment to the legal industry in Scotland, while the firm’s employment team picked up the Innovation Award for its online HR and employment law tool, Brodies Workbox. Both awards were presented at last night’s award ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

Mr Drummond joined Brodies in 1980 as an apprentice and became Managing Partner in 1998; a position he held until his retirement in 2018. During his 20 years as Managing Partner, he transformed the firm from a 175-employee business trading from a single office in Edinburgh, into Scotland’s largest independent law firm, with 650 employees and offices in Aberdeen, Dingwall, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Brussels. His contribution to the Scottish economy, including his work with SCDI over more than a decade, was also highlighted by the judging panel.

Bill Drummond said: “I am honoured to be recognised for services to the Scottish legal sector. It was a privilege working with so many talented people at Brodies, and their commitment to clients and the firm served as its own inspiration to me during my time at the firm.”

Nick Scott, Managing Partner at Brodies, added: “This award is testament to Bill’s commitment to Brodies and our clients, as well as his achievements in growing the business and raising the profile of the Scottish legal industry across the UK and internationally. His client-first focus is a quality that continues to be at the heart of the firm and our approach to the way that we do business.”

The firm’s second accolade of the evening was awarded for Brodies Workbox, an online platform that provides up to date, practical HR advice, templates and tools.

Tony Hadden, Partner and Head of Employment, said: “In response to the changing world of professional services and the increased demands being placed on our clients, we developed an online platform allowing subscribers to access over 250 templates and HR and employment law information whenever it is needed. We’re delighted that Brodies Workbox has been recognised for its innovative qualities; I’d like to thank our clients for their ongoing support, as well as our employment, IT and marketing teams, for their commitment to the project.”
