Cullen Property launches “Trees for Tenancies” in bid to go carbon neutral

Posted: 22nd April 2021

Collaboration with Scottish charity Trees for Life will see trees planted to offset carbon footprint of each new tenancy

Edinburgh residential property investment and lettings specialist Cullen Property is launching its Trees for Tenancies initiative in collaboration with Highlands-based environmental conservation charity, Trees for Life.

The initiative will see Cullen Property staff calculate how many new properties were rented each month and plant trees accordingly. As a second stage, existing tenants and landlords will be offered the opportunity to donate and help plant trees, either as a one-off gift or as an ongoing commitment. All trees will be planted by the charity in a dedicated grove in the Scottish Highlands.

Cullen Property Managing Director Steve Coyle said: “Spending time in nature, getting out for some fresh air or a bit of physical activity, has benefitted many of us over this past year. It has helped balance some of the uncertainty, stress and anxiety caused by the pandemic.

“As a team we felt that planting trees for each new tenancy is a way of giving something back, of supporting our great Scottish outdoors. The long-term goal is to neutralise our carbon footprint.

“We found Trees for Life’s ambitious goal to restore some of the original Caledonian Forest across the Scottish Highlands simply inspiring, which is why we chose to partner up with this particular charity.”

Initial donations have already been made with 55 trees now thriving in Cullen Property’s new grove. The company hopes to encourage existing tenants and landlords to contribute to the initiative. The project’s progress can be monitored here, with direct donations also possible via this link.

Cullen Property specialises in HMO property investment and is one of Edinburgh’s leading student letting agents, currently managing circa 400 properties in Edinburgh including 207 HMO properties.  The team were among the first Edinburgh letting agents to successfully implement virtual viewings back in March 2020, allowing tenants to view and book their properties totally online. The Cullen Property team can source, acquire and transform a dated spacious Edinburgh property into a modern HMO licensed accommodation in prime city centre locations.
