Cruden Building support 8 local foodbanks in the West of Scotland for the second Christmas running

Posted: 20th December 2021

For the second consecutive year, staff from Cruden Building (West), part of the Cruden Group, are giving back to local people in need this Christmas by donating 10,000 items to 8 foodbanks across the West of Scotland.

In support of the local communities that they are building in, as many as 70 Cruden employees from across 22 different developments in the West of Scotland gathered together to collect and make donations to foodbanks in the areas surrounding Cruden’s sites.

Cruden staff collected around 10,000 food items and raised over £5,000 worth of collections through their heart warming efforts, amounting to as much as 3 tonnes of food donations and with the help of the Foodbank charity, Trussell Trust, they organised the distribution to foodbanks in and around Glasgow. The donation to the Trussell Trust (Scotland) will provide 1,000 additional food parcels to those who depend on it this Christmas.

Allan Callaghan, Managing Director of Cruden Building said: “After the tremendous success of our partnership with the Trussell Trust last year, we are delighted to be teaming up on this food bank initiative once again to provide much needed support to local people in difficulty in the West of Scotland. Cruden has always had a strong corporate and social responsibility focus, our excellent team of staff are a shining example of that, and I am confident that the donations we received from staff, clients and supply chain partners will help to deliver Christmas cheer to families at this important time of year.”

Kevin Reid, Chief Executive of the Cruden Group said: “The Cruden Group is incredibly proud to support local people and charities in the areas we build in as we know very well the positive impact that providing basic essentials like food and shelter can have on people’s lives to the benefit of the wider community.”

Samantha Stapley, Chief Operating Officer at the Trussell Trust, said: “Thank you to the team at Cruden Group for their incredible support. With rising living costs, energy prices at record highs and a cut in the Universal Credit payment many people are facing impossible decisions this winter, like whether to cook hot food or switch on the heating. But ultimately, no one in the UK should need a food bank – all of us should have enough money for the essentials like food, clothing and heating. The support of Cruden Group will help food banks within our network continue to provide that lifeline of emergency support, while we work together in the long term to ensure everyone can afford the essentials, like food.
