CityFibre passes 1 million homes milestone in its Full Fibre rollout

Posted: 17th November 2021
  • More than 1 million homes are now able to order services from over 30 consumer ISPs
  • CityFibre now the largest provider of Full Fibre lines in more than 25 UK towns and cities.
  • Rollout on track to reach up to 8 million homes by 2025 in £4bn nationwide investment.

CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent Full Fibre platform, has today passed a major milestone, making its millionth home ‘Ready For Service’ (RFS) in its nationwide Full Fibre rollout.

Residents served by the CityFibre network can now place an order with one of 30 of its consumer Internet Service Provider (ISP) partners and receive Gigabit-capable, symmetrical services in as little as 5 working days. This industry-leading service makes it quick and easy for consumers to upgrade from copper-based networks to faster and more reliable Full Fibre connections on the CityFibre network.

This key milestone indicates that CityFibre is on track with its £4bn investment programme to reach up to 8 million homes by 2025 – approximately one third of the UK market. It is also in discussions with the Government to explore opportunities to support BDUK’s Project Gigabit programme to bring Full Fibre to rural communities across the country.

As of today, CityFibre has 26 construction companies mobilised and in build across over 60 towns and cities. It is currently the largest provider of Full Fibre lines in more than 25 locations. By the end of 2022, it plans to have builds underway across more than 150 cities, towns and villages before expanding to 285 by 2025.

In addition to accelerating its rollout, CityFibre is increasingly the network of choice for many consumer ISPs thanks to its superior products and attractive wholesale pricing. It has secured long-term commitments from Vodafone, TalkTalk and Zen, and has attracted an exciting new generation of regional Full Fibre ISPs to the market.

CityFibre continues to support the success of all its ISPs, introducing innovative commercial offers, incentives, and co-marketing activities to accelerate take-up of Full Fibre services.

The achievement has been welcomed by Julia Lopez, Minister for Media, Data and Digital Infrastructure, saying: “A huge congratulations to everyone at CityFibre for their efforts to reach this impressive milestone in our national mission to level up the UK with much faster broadband.

“In government we are driving competition and speeding up rollout. Our £5 billion Project Gigabit will help providers like CityFibre bring the incredible benefits of next-generation connectivity to people in hard-to-reach areas.”

Greg Mesch, Chief Executive Officer of CityFibre, said: “This is a significant milestone on our path to reaching 8 million premises and we are already the largest provider of Full Fibre lines in more than 25 towns and cities. The quality of the network we are building has already attracted some of the country’s biggest ISPs while we are also seeing the emergence of new and exciting brands offering even more options for consumers.

“With a million homes now able to access our Full Fibre connectivity and more added every day, we are focused on supporting our consumer ISP partners to drive service take-up. We look forward to collaborating with our partners in the coming months to design compelling new packages and initiatives, and to continue raising awareness of the benefits of Full Fibre.”
