Burges Salmon announces 97 per cent trainee retention rate in 2020

The firm continues to maintain its impressive trainee retention rate, achieving a 96 per cent average over the past five years.

Burges Salmon is pleased to announce that 97 per cent of trainees have accepted positions at the firm, which they will take up on qualification in September 2020.

This year’s figures contribute to Burges Salmon’s continued high trainee retention rate over the past five years, which stands at an average of 96 per cent (85 per cent in 2016; 100 per cent in 2017; 96 per cent in 2018; and 100 per cent in 2019).

The cohort of 29 2020 qualifying trainee solicitors – of which two thirds are female and one third male – will join a range of teams across the firm, including Banking, Construction and Engineering, Pensions, Employment, Corporate and Dispute Resolution.

In light of the current virtual environment, Burges Salmon has adapted its induction for its newly qualified lawyers (NQs) and supervisors are placing renewed focus on supporting learning through regular contact with the NQs for both work and pastoral considerations. The firm has also recently rolled out its new, innovative learning management system (LMS), ‘Learning at Burges Salmon’ or ‘LAB’, offering its lawyers the flexibility to learn when it suits them.

Commenting on the announcement, Burges Salmon Managing Partner Roger Bull says: “It is with great pleasure we announce another year of high trainee retention rates; at Burges Salmon, we are committed to being an exceptional place to work and to recruiting, retaining and motivating the highest calibre of people. We consider our trainee programme to be market leading and it is great to see this reflected in the continued exceptional retention rates. Many congratulations to our qualifying solicitors of 2020.”
