Bruntsfield Links support My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

Posted: 2nd March 2018

AN Edinburgh golf club’s inaugural charity week fundraiser has supported the “My Name’5 Doddie Foundation” and the former Scotland rugby star’s crusade to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.

Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society has held a series of fundraising events to coincide with the Six Nations campaign.

Iain, Kenny and David Milne – aka The Three Bears – appeared at a recent dinner and requested that their fee be donated to Weir’s charitable trust, set-up last year in the wake of their fellow one-time international forward’s diagnosis.

1994 Grand Slam winner Iain accepted a £4500 donation from Society captain Mike Smith on behalf of the Foundation.

“Members were saddened to hear of Doddie’s diagnosis but inspired by his determination to tackle this awful disease with the same commitment he always showed on the rugby field,” said Mike.

“A well-known member is also suffering from MND and supporting this cause was an obvious choice as we were embarking on a charity fundraiser which will become a regular feature of the Society calendar.”

Events also included a three club competition, afternoon tea, quiz night and gin tasting aimed at members and friends.

Bruntsfield is undergoing a £1 million course development project and another charitable event is being planned for the summer.
