Brodies enhances leading oil and gas team with new partner appointment

Posted: 19th November 2025

UK top 50 and leading Scottish law firm Brodies LLP has boosted its market leading oil and gas practice with the appointment of new partner, Andy Russell.

Andy began his legal career at Brodies, undertaking an oil and gas-focused traineeship and qualifying in 2014. Most recently, he served as General Counsel (GC) and Head of the Legal and Governance Division at North Oil Company in Qatar, where he was recognised on The Legal 500’s GC list for two consecutive years. His specialist expertise in oil field services, operations, and offshore infrastructure projects — including EPCIC contracts — complements the firm’s top-ranked oil and gas practice and supports its strategic focus on both UK and international markets.

Andy’s appointment brings the total number of oil and gas partners in the firm to five. He will be based in Brodies’ Aberdeen office.

He said, “I am excited to return to my home city of Aberdeen and to rejoin the team at Brodies which is so well respected in the international energy sector. My time in-house at North Oil Company means I have seen at first hand the challenges and opportunities our clients face, and I look forward to using that insight to support them and to contribute to Brodies’ continued growth in this space.”

Clare Munro, Head of Energy and Infrastructure at Brodies LLP, said: “Andy is an outstanding lawyer who will bring valuable insight and specialist expertise to our clients. We are delighted that he has chosen to return to Brodies where he began his legal career – it is an endorsement of our practice and our commitment to the energy sector, both in the North-east of Scotland and internationally”.

Brodies recently reported its financial results for the year ending 30 April 2025, recording the firm’s fifteenth consecutive year of growth and posting revenue of £126.7 million, up 11% on the previous year.
