Balfour Beatty VINCI has been featured on the BBC’s Great British Railway Journeys, showcasing the work taking place at the Curzon 3 site for HS2 in Birmingham. Curzon 3 is one five landmark viaducts that will bring high speed trains into Birmingham’s new Curzon Street station.

In the interview Jonathan Barrows, a steel fixer apprentice on the project, discusses his role in building the walkway that separates the maintenance crew from the railway tracks. As part of his demonstration, he shows how the steel is precisely lined up against pre-marked points before being secured by double-tying wire around the steel intersections.

Jonathan also shares his personal journey, commenting on his career change: “I’ve really enjoyed seeing myself develop on the project. I’ve come from driving, previously, HGVs, buses and coaches and wanted a new trade skill. I’ll be looking to take this role as far as I possibly can.”
