Balfour Beatty’s Scott Geddes has featured in New Civil Engineer highlighting the critical role that major infrastructure programmes are playing in meeting the UK’s rapidly growing clean energy ambitions.

In the article, he talks about the works being done in the Northeast of Scotland that together will boost the future of energy across the UK. This includes the delivery of new high voltage substations and long distance overhead lines and subsea cabling, which are all essential to moving multi-gigawatt outputs from coastal landing points to major industrial centres.

Speaking about how these projects support the local community, Scott said: “Beyond the scale and technical ambition, this infrastructure is also ultimately about the people it supports, the communities, workers and businesses whose futures it will help power.

By mid-2028, we will have created 900 jobs, most of them local. We’re working with regional suppliers and contractors; hosting Meet the Buyer events and supporting small businesses with tendering guidance. We’re sourcing services like signage, catering, and cleaning from local businesses.”
