Balfour Beatty appoints Nick Rowan as Managing Director of its Regional business in Scotland

Posted: 17th June 2025

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, today announces that it has appointed Nick Rowan as Managing Director of its UK Construction Services Regional Scotland business, effective from 4 August 2025.

Nick’s appointment is testament to the company’s commitment to attracting, training and retaining its employees, having joined the company 30 years ago as a Graduate Surveyor. He spent the first two decades of his career in operational commercial roles, and the last 10 years as Director for New Business for the Regional Scotland business.

A Chartered Surveyor, Nick has been instrumental in broadening Balfour Beatty’s Regional Scotland portfolio. Most notably, he was involved in securing the A9 Dualling Scheme on behalf of Transport Scotland, and the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment offshore programme of works for SSEN Transmission.

Nick replaces Hector MacAulay who has worked at Balfour Beatty for four decades, most recently as Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s UK Construction Services Regional Scotland business; a role he has held since 2015. Hector will continue in an advisory capacity for several months to ensure a seamless transition, before retiring at the end of the year.

Nick Crossfield, Divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty’s UK Construction Services business, said: “Nick has a long and deep understanding of Balfour Beatty, having started his career with us as a graduate three decades ago.

“There is a significant pipeline of work ahead in Scotland requiring close collaboration across teams. Nick is ideally placed to lead this growth, sustain our success and build on Hector’s legacy. His appointment is also testament to the long and rewarding careers available in the construction and infrastructure industry, where talent and dedication is recognised and nurtured.”

Nick Rowan, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s Regional business in Scotland, said: “With Scotland playing a key role in our growth strategy and the UK’s transition to Net Zero, I am excited to lead our Scotland business at such a pivotal time.

“I look forward to continuing to work alongside the incredibly talented team, remaining focused on delivering best-in-class, sustainable construction solutions for our customers. I would also like to thank Hector for his leadership over many years – he leaves our Regional Scotland business in excellent health and with clear direction.”

From Dunfermline’s tramways in 1909 to highland hospitals today, Balfour Beatty has been trusted for over a century to deliver the complex and critical infrastructure and iconic buildings Scotland relies on. The company has the people, knowledge and experience to safely deliver projects right first time, maximising value for money and ensuring a positive social impact and inclusive economic growth for local communities.
