Armed Forces Day flag raising ceremony
WHAT: A small escort party (with accompanying piper) will step off with the flag into the City Chambers Quadrangle where it will be met by the Depute Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, Lezley Marion-Cameron. The flag will be taken indoors and then raised from the roof of the City Chambers.
WHEN: Monday 23 June. 10:55am: Depute Lord Provost takes up position outside the City Chamber and escort party (with accompanying piper) will step off into the Quadrangle. 11am: Flag raising. 11:05am: Press photos and interviews. 11:30am: Dispersal.
WHERE: City Chambers, City of Edinburgh Council, 253 High Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1YJ.
WHO: The procession will consist of: a Piper LSgt Mark Macrae Scots Guards; from Royal British Legion Scotland National Parade Marshall Tony Hooman; two standard bearers Billy Morrison and Paul Cooper; and Eddie Maley, who will carry the flag. The procession will be met by the Depute Lord Provost, Lezley Marion Cameron with special guests Capt Chris McGinley (Representative of the Royal Navy), Garrison Sergeant Major David Hunter (Representative of the Army) and Air Commodore Mark Northover (Representative of the Royal Air Force).
Ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28 June, the Flag Raising Ceremony is a national event to launch Armed Forces Day and Edinburgh’s involvement, as the city honours Armed Forces personnel past, present, and future.
Photograph/interview opportunities will be available with all those involved once the official Armed Forces Day flag has been hoisted above the City Chambers.
