Posted: 29th July 2019

Full service law firm Thorntons has appointed Lucy Metcalf as a director in its family law team in the capital.

Lucy, an accredited specialist in Family Law, joins Associate Jenny Broatch and Partner Alasdair Docwra in Thorntons’ Edinburgh operation. She has practiced exclusively in litigation and has specialised in family law for the majority of her career.

Lucy is a member of the Family Law Association and of Consensus, the Scottish Collaborative Family Lawyers Group. She is committed to the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) wherever appropriate and is a trustee of Scottish Adoption, a national adoption agency which delivers high quality placement and adoption services across Scotland.

As part of the family team at Thorntons, Lucy will advise on all aspects of family law including the financial consequences of divorce, pre and post-nuptial agreements, cohabitation disputes and agreements, child law and adoption.

She has particular expertise in cases involving financial issues, particularly company and partnership valuations and pension sharing, and extensive agreement in negotiating and drafting complex minutes of agreement dealing with the disposal and transfer of business assets.

Clare Macpherson, partner at Thorntons, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lucy to our Edinburgh team. She is a great addition to the family law team and with her wealth of experience I believe she will be an outstanding asset to our clients and colleagues.”
