4 Wins at the 17th Annual Scottish Hotel Awards for Market Street Hotel

Posted: 28th April 2020

Recently opened Market Street hotel is celebrating an incredible 4 wins at the 17th annual Scottish Hotel Awards, which were hosted “virtually” on Sunday 26th April 2020.  The Scottish Hotel Awards are Scotland’s leading awards scheme and strive to encourage, recognise and reward hospitality excellence in Scotland.  Member hotels are very carefully assessed throughout the year by industry specialists through a series of research and judging visits.  Market Street was recognised with “New Hotel of the Year” and “Best Bar Food” for rooftop champagne lounge, Nor’ Loft.   There were also two coveted “People of Excellence” awards handed to team members Paul Reid (Winner of the National Receptionist of the Year Awards) and Georgina Gilmour (Regional Marketing Manager of the Year).  The hotel, which opened its doors in August 2019, is the first Scottish member of Design Hotels and its award winning architecture by jm architects resurrected a derelict gap site, completing the Old Town’s world famous skyline at last.

“These awards are the highlight of the hotel industry’s calendar, usually hosted in a lavish ceremony attended by hundreds of our industry colleagues and partners – a night to let your hair down and reward and celebrate with the team.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it wasn’t possible this year, but I’m delighted that the organisers made the decision to host a virtual ceremony instead.  This recognition and achievement couldn’t have come at a better time to help boost the morale of our incredibly hard working team who have had to face the temporary closure of our beloved hotel just 6 months after we opened.  Navigating through these unprecedented times has been a challenge for us all – but we cannot wait to open our doors again and come back stronger than before.”  Jill Darling, General Manager
