Luxury hotel group water supply contract is first for UK market

A ground-breaking national water supply contract has been signed by Malmaison and Hotel du Vin with Anglian Water Business.

The company, which has an office in Edinburgh, already provides water billing and efficiency services to some of Scotland’s biggest businesses, saving them water and money. Key contracts include ASDA; Betfred and Scottish company Starwood Hotels, who run the Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa in Edinburgh and Greene King, who run Scotland’s Belhaven pub chain.

The contract, brokered by Inprova Energy, is the first UK-wide, single-contract, multi-site deal to leverage the benefits of upcoming market reform in England. The deal covers Malmaison and Hotel du Vin’s entire UK portfolio of 33 luxury boutique hotels, and is set to see annual savings rise to more than £75,000 when the market opens in April 2017.

Businesses in Scotland have benefitted from a de-regulated water market since 2008. From April next year, all non-household sites in England will be able to negotiate new arrangements for their water and wastewater supplies.

Savings will be made through a combination of lower tariffs, consolidated billing and a range of efficiency measures; from energy audits to the installation of automated meter reading (AMR) devices in every hotel.

Peter Gaskell, Business Account Team Manager for Anglian Water Business, said: “We were able to identify clear savings and increased efficiencies for Malmaison and Hotel du Vin sites nationally. Our Active Water Management service will ensure substantial savings throughout the chain, while our consolidated billing and outstanding customer service will mean improved efficiencies, added value and a simplified process.”

Gary Hall, Finance Director at Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, commented: “The utilities market in the UK, and water services in particular, has historically proven to be a difficult sector in which to gain economies of scale through multi-site contracts. Our partnership with Anglian Water Business and Inprova Energy allows us to benefit not only from an improved financial position, but streamlines the administrative burden needed to manage the disparate accounts.”
