Export Documentation

Our team provides advice on worldwide export documentation requirements and trade regulations.

We also offer a range of specialised ICC publications on international trade. Customers can also access the up-to-date Harmonised System Integrated Tariff within the department.

Edinburgh Chamber members receive substantial discounts on all export documentation services.

Exporters and Freight Forwarders are now able to apply for both European and Arab-British Certificates of origins online.

Certificates of Origin are essential to allow exporting companies to comply with customs requirements of the importing countries, and to meet other banking or commercial criteria.

e-Cert and a-Cert are good news for UK exporters looking to maintain a competitive edge in a tough international marketplace.

Our staff are British Chambers of Commerce approved Documentation Officers, and we are one of only 18 authorised issuers of ATA Carnets in the UK.

Export Documents Issued By The Chamber

The documents issued by Edinburgh Chamber on behalf of the DTi and HM Customs are:

  • Arab British Documents
As a main agent of the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce we can offer a specialised certification and legalisation service for exports to Arab League countries.
  • EU Certificates of Origin
Using e-Cert you can apply for EU Certificates of Origin online, in addition to submitting documents through the post or in person.
  • ATA Carnets
Acting as a passport for your goods, an ATA Carnet allows the temporary importation into certain overseas markets for Exhibitions, Commercial Samples or Professional Equipment.
  • EUR/ATR Customs Documents
These documents allow your customer to pay a preferential rate of duty on your goods.

Authorised Economic Operator System

HM Customs have now published information for the Authorised Economic Operator System.

What is an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO)?

An AEO is an Economic Operator who by virtue of satisfying certain criteria is considered to be reliable in their customs related operations throughout the European Community and is therefore entitled to a range of benefits in regard to the control and movement of goods.

Depending on the type of AEO certificate applied for and authorised, these can include either easier access to certain customs simplifications or certain facilitations from Customs security and safety controls or both.

The introduction of the AEO status is the European Communities response to the need to secure international supply chains and the introduction of the Customs/Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C/PAT) in the USA and the development of the safe framework of standards in the World Customs Organisation.  An operator with AEO security and safety status implies that apart from being reliable in the traditional financial and customs terms you are also compliant in respect of security and safety standards and can therefore be considered as a "secure trader" and thus a reliable trading partner.
