Technology Policy Group

The Technology Policy Group meets on a regular basis to tackle issues relating to technology based businesses, as well as to discuss how all Edinburgh businesses can use technology to their advantage.

Our group contains members from both local and national IT and technology companies, who are committed to the development of Edinburgh as a vibrant technological industry centre. We welcome members from a variety of sectors, including technology.

Our remit twofold: firstly, to promote a supportive environment for technology businesses in the Edinburgh area to start up, grow and commercialise; and secondly, to promote the use of technology in all local businesses to help improve their competitiveness.

This is a newly formed group (Summer 2010) and we hope to have much more to share with you soon!

What is this group about?

The group discussed the aims and objectives/aspirations of forming a technology policy group. The key issues emerging from the discussion were:

  • The need for end users to understand how technology is working
  • For the group to be relevant to clients and customers and not for the 'techy' sector alone
  • To remove some of the mystique from I.T and technology
  • To develop a wider understanding for opportunities, specifically, SMEs, 'small and nimble'
  • To develop a project to promote wireless infrastructure for Edinburgh
  • To encourage leaders in technology innovation to address the group
  • To develop an understanding of the issues and challenges around cloud computing, virtualisation and the development of social media
