Current issues
This section highlights some of the major issues on which the Edinburgh Chamber is representing the business community:
Non Domestic Rates appeal
Edinburgh Chamber members are counting the cost of a Non Domestic Rates revaluation which takes effect from April this year- leaving many with massive increases in their bills.
Public sector funding
We help represent the business community regarding the relationship between public and private sector: the proportion of our GDP which each is delivering; how public sector procurement can be opened up to SME's; and other ways in which our large and important public sector can help grow the economy in partnership with private enterprise.
Edinburgh city centre trams
We have played a major role in representing the views of the business community throughout the Edinburgh Trams project.
Haymarket interchange
We have taken a keen interest in proposals for the development of the Haymarket area of Edinburgh city centre.
Cutting red tape
We support all initiatives to cut unnecessary bureaucracy surronding business development.
City parking strategy
We represent the interests of the Edinburgh business community regarding the city council's parking strategies.
Safer streets
We support initiatives to improve the safety of our streets.
An Election View from Edinburgh
On this page, you will find our new Election document, The View from Edinburgh. It's not manifesto, but rather a call to action for all political parties, and it is based on the daily feedback we get from our members.
Public sector growth
Over half of Scotland's economy is now in the public sector. We spend nearly ten per cent more than England (pro rata) on public services, and public sector employment keeps growing. We all appreciate the good work done by emergency services, educationalists and the health services, but are we getting best value for money?
