Public Sector Growth

Over half of Scotland's economy is now in the public sector. We spend nearly 10% more than England (pro rata) on public services, and public sector employment keeps growing.

We all appreciate the good work done by emergency services, educationalists and the health services, but are we getting best value for money?

There are also concerns that a booming public sector with good pay and pensions is attracting the best young graduates away from the private sector, increasing skills shortages.

We are asking for restraint in the public sector and assurances that Finance Minister, Tom McCabe's vow to achieve savings will be effective. Do you support this campaign? Your views will give greater weight to our lobbying efforts.
