"Scotland Performs" - a new way of reporting on how well our nation is progressing which has recently been on the Scottish Government's website. This Government has been clear from the outset that it wants to take a strategic approach to government with a focus on outcomes. We are focussing all of government and public services on a single, over-arching Purpose - to create a more successful country, with opportunities for all Scotland to flourish, through increasing sustainable economic growth:
The Government established a National Performance Framework, published in the Spending Review 2007, to underpin delivery of this Purpose.
Scotland Performs is launched and publishes for the first time to show how well the country is progressing against this framework. It is designed to be clear, logical and easy to understand. Where in the past there has been a proliferation of different priorities, we now have a unified vision and quantifiable benchmarks against which future progress can be assessed.
We hope that Scotland Performs:
- helps you see how you and your organisation can help deliver a more successful country through increasing sustainable economic growth
- shows how the Purpose can be achieved by working together towards the National Outcomes
- shows how the strategic objectives frame the work of the Government
- provides clear and robust data to show progress towards the Purpose Targets and National Indicators

This is only the start of a journey. There are plans to develop and extend this initial website. We want to deepen public knowledge about Scotland's challenges, its opportunities and achievements and the role of government and public services in creating a more successful country.
We would welcome your comments and suggestions as we develop this website for the future. Scotland Performs Team can be contacted via scotlandperforms@scotland.gsi.gov.uk.
