Edinburgh Airport recently announced Scotland’s first direct service to the iconic Turkish city Istanbul. The new service from Turkish Airlines will run 4 times a week from 16th July and will provide an excellent link for leisure and business travellers alike.

Statistics show that Scotland’s economy would be boosted by £400m annually and the unemployment rate reduced by 8% if only modest growth was achieved by Scotland’s women owned businesses. 2010 UK research also confirmed that 66% of women in business want to grow their companies and that women owned businesses have achieved sustainability slightly higher than average during the economic crisis. Recognising the economic impact of supporting more women to grow their businesses, in 2011 Edinburgh Chamber in partnership with Blue Horizons (Scotland) Ltd and supported by Edinburgh Council and European Regional Development Fund launched the Women Mean Business (WMB) programme. The aim was to support women interested in growing their businesses through an innovative and comprehensive programme of training and guidance.

Responding to Transport Scotland’s consultation on the future of Scottish rail services, Rail 2014, Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) have today called for the development of a long term strategic vision for Scotland’s rail network, freeing up the franchise holder to respond positively to customer demand. SCC have also called for the creation of a new franchise to build on the success of the Caledonian Sleeper service and are fighting to protect through running cross-border services serving the East, North East and North of Scotland.
