Blackadders’ staff bag £3200 for Alzheimer Scotland in hillwalking challenge

Posted: 21st June 2018

Staff at law firm Blackadders have raised more than £3200 for Alzheimer Scotland in a unique hillwalking challenge.

Teams drawn from the rapidly growing firm’s Incapacity Teams in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth split into four separate expedition parties to bag a total of 15 Munros in one leg-sapping day.

Focussing on Munros, mountains over the size of 3000ft, the groups climbed five hills in the Ben Lawers area, five were scaled near Lochnagar, three at Cairnwell and two near Glen Clova.

In addition to navigating and climbing their way over some of Scotland’s highest peaks for a very worthy cause, one group built on their sterling work by rescuing a young lamb stuck that was stuck in a fence and returning it to its mother.

Partner Laura McDowall said: “Our staff are always keen to support good causes and the work of Alzheimer Scotland is something that is very close to many of the team’s hearts.

“There was a mix of experienced and first-time hillwalkers from various roles and offices throughout the company that took part. It’s a privilege to be able to work together to support the charity in any way we can. Being able to do this by getting active and enjoying Scotland’s wonderful countryside led to a few weary legs but it was a challenge that everyone enjoyed.”

Alison Baker, Corporate Fundraiser from Alzheimer Scotland, said: “We’re so grateful to the team for completing their hillwalking challenge and for all their hard work and enthusiasm. With around 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland and the number on the rise, it is our biggest health and social care challenge. All monies raised will go a long way to boost our local support, services and advice which will help us to get closer to achieving our aim of making sure that nobody faces dementia alone.”

Blackadders has offices in Dundee, Forfar, Arbroath, Perth, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
