Edinburgh’s Stick Figures Nominated as Exhibition of the Year

Posted: 27th July 2016

Public art installation KEYFRAMES delivered by Curated Place with French artists collective Groupe LAPS has been nominated for the Drum Scottish Event Awards 2016 as the Exhibition of the Year.

KEYFRAMES presented an entirely new architectural scale light and sound installation taking over one of Edinburgh’s most iconic public spaces, St Andrew Square. The 96 light sculptures were lit in sequence to an original musical composition creating the illusion of movement, tracing the history of Scottish innovation and French influence on some of the nation’s greatest thinkers.

Councillor Richard Lewis, Edinburgh’s Festivals and Events Champion, said: “The Council commissioned KEYFRAMES to create a unique attraction between Christmas and spring in St Andrew Square. It offered something which was both entertaining and magical for Edinburgh and was a real hit with local and international audiences. Curated Place and Groupe LAPS tailored the installation carefully to the site and cultural context with much success. The nomination is well deserved.”

Andy Brydon, Director of Curated Place said: “To be nominated for the awards is a testament to the hard work of the creative team, our artists and the strong partnership Curated Place developed with the City of Edinburgh Council.”

The exhibition, which was free, took place from February 4 to March 28 and was commissioned by the City of Edinburgh Council with support from Visit Scotland and Essential Edinburgh.

The Scottish Event Awards will take place on 5th of October in Glasgow. Full nominations are at http://www.scottisheventawards.net/scottish-event-awards/scottish-event-awards-2016
