The essential role of the Commercial Invoice is to convey and illustrate the price that is required to be paid for the subject goods/services of the contract.
Although not a legal document, it is accepted that the invoice provides evidence of the price, in accordance with the contract, and to perform this function of necessity the invoice must contain sufficient information, so as to identify it with the parties of the contract and also with the goods/services of the contract.
The content of the Invoice will to a large extent be dictated to by the terms of the Contract, the Invoice may also require the inclusion of information which is relevant to parties other than the buyer and seller. Such information maybe as required by Customs authorities, transport companies etc.
The Invoice is also of paramount importance in the financial actitivies of both the seller and buyer.
