International Trade Development Executive (ITD)

Period:    Permanent

Hours:     Full time

Reporting Relationship:  Divisional Director

Key Responsibilities: Managing on a day to day basis the delivery of International Trades, development and commercial activity.

Location: All Chamber, International and Edinburgh Business Development (EBD) Business & Learning group offices.

Closing Date: Thursday 10th April 2008

An experienced executive with a comprehensive knowledge of International trade principles, you'll have responsibility for delivering and promoting a range of products recently added to our business portfolio.  You'll have an understanding of best practice procedures in an international trade context. This position calls for a candidate with drive, enthusiasm and a full understanding of the development of International trade within the Scottish economy.

Key Tasks:

Undertake responsibilities for ITD to ensure quality delivery of the Chamber and EBD Business & Learning international services against agreed targets and outputs:

  • Provide management for existing ITD activities
  • Grow and develop ITD products and exceed sales targets
  • Maintain and develop excellent working relationships with local partners, suppliers, community, members and client base.
  • Implement an effective marketing and promotional campaign to raise awareness of the ITD and its activities locally, citywide and nationally.
  • Exceed agreed output targets and quality thresholds
  • Maintain all records to meet the requirements of our partners
  • Manage budgets and submit claims as per all activities, and ensure monies are received as due.
  • Signpost clients and partners to specialist sources of assistance 
  • Generate awareness of appropriate Chamber added value services and actively generate Chamber membership growth.
  • Deliver awareness sessions on a group and individual basis in all areas of business development to a variety of audiences.
  • Maintain records allowing for the review of ITD performance on a daily basis and produce statistics when required.
  • Encourage the take up of networking opportunities amongst the client base.
  •  Provide assistance at networking events as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships both within the organisation and externally with clients, suppliers, partners and intermediary organisations.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in all aspects of International Trade principles
  • Proven experience of developing and selling new products and services in a competitive business environment
  • Experience of motivating and managing a team and delivering on agreed targets
  • Proven experience of excellent customer care and dealing with a wide variety of the public in a business setting
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of pre-start, start up and growth issues facing small and medium sized businesses.
  • Proven experience of effective written and oral communication both on a one to one and group basis
  • Comfortable in delivering presentations of ITD products and services to a wide cross section of businesses in a competitive environment and crucially achieving conversion to profitable sales
  • Self motivated and enthusiastic with a disciplined approach to achieving targets
  • A positive approach to self-development and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Flexible and committed to achieving excellence
  • Strong IT skills in Microsoft Office products

Key Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree standard or equivalent experience in a business environment
  • Proven record of achieving excellence in a profitable sales environment
  • Proven experience in a business related environment OR experience of setting up in business and trading.
  • A strong background in marketing and / or financial control of businesses

Terms and Conditions

Salary Band (£27.7- £35k depending on experience and qualifications)

Office hours are Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. There will be occasions when the position requires out of office hours working early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Holiday entitlement will be 25 days plus statutory holidays, which can be taken as personal holidays. The holiday year runs from 1 January.  This will be pro rata to the number of hours worked.

Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce operates a Group Personal Pension Scheme provided by Standard Life; you will be able to join the scheme after completing a three-month period.  The Chamber will contribute a certain percentage of salary depending on a salary grading structure (normally 6%).  The Chamber of Commerce also operates a Death in Service Scheme.
